Radar Check At 6:55 PM
As the main line of storms has now pretty much exited the southern parts of Central Alabama, the severe threat for the area is over. There may be a few scattered showers or thundershowers that move across your location until we lose the daytime heating, but you will not have to worry about any strong storms as the atmosphere has been worked over and is stable.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Autauga, Barbour, Bullock, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, and Russell counties has been allowed to expire by NWS Birmingham. They have also cancelled the Severe Thunderstorm Watch that was in effect until midnight for Dallas, Greene, Hale, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, and Sumter counties.
All that remains is the Heat Advisory that goes into effect at 10:00 AM Friday morning and expires at 8:00 PM Friday evening.
We do have some sad news to report with today’s storms… Lineville Police (Clay Co.) reports that a man was killed when a large tree fell on his vehicle when he was driving on Martha Street due to thunderstorm wind gusts.
Hueytown Police Department reports that 2 people were injured when a tree fell on their vehicle when they were traveling on Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive in front of the Hueytown High School stadium due to thunderstorm wind gusts.
There are many more reports of trees and power lines downed, along with some structural damage due to damaging winds and lightning strikes.
Alabama Power reports as of 5:00 PM, over 156,000 people are without power due to today’s storms. This is just a list of the top 5 hardest hit counties by power outages.
