The heaviest amounts of rainfall within the past hour have totaled over 2 inches in parts of Jefferson and Shelby counties. Our own Bill Murray has received 1.81 inches within 50 minutes at his residence in Vestavia Hills. Radar estimates sow totals close by in Hoover nearing 2.5 inches so far.

JUST IN: Highway 31 at 28th Avenue South just southwest of Vulcan is flooded with at least 3 cars stranded.

Another part of Jefferson County, mainly from Mountain Brook to Irondale have seen 2.25 inches estimated by radar within 60 minutes.

The good news is that the heavier storms have moved west of the flood warned areas, but the bad news is that rain still falls in those warned areas. I wouldn’t be surprised if more flood advisories or warnings may be issued shortly.

Try to hold off on traveling while these storms are active in the area. Ponding could lead to hydroplaning on the interstates. Plus, excessive runoff could cause creeks and drainage ditches to overflow and flood streets.
