The northern half of Alabama has been mostly cloudy on this last Sunday before Christmas in 2019 thanks to an upper-level disturbance and approaching cold front. Highs are going to top out in the middle 50s to the north, ranging to the lower 60s over Central Alabama.

Rainfall amounts have been light from some spotty showers. The rain is ending and clouds will decrease tonight, setting the stage for some light fog or light freezing fog. Keep that in mind in the morning if you will be heading out. Lows tonight will drop into the 29-33F range.

Tomorrow promises to feature a good supply of sunshine after that fog burns off and highs will be a few degrees cooler than those of today, ending up around 52-54F. Santa will find it seasonably nippy as he makes his rounds Monday night. Lows will be in the 30-33F range.

Christmas Day should be nice, with highs in the upper 50s and a decent supply of sunshine again.

Clouds will increase on Wednesday and rain and some thunder will return on Thursday into Friday. It will be a soaking rain for much of the area. Rainfall amounts by Friday morning could total 2-3 inches. More rain is due in New Year’s Eve with storms on tap for New Year’s Day. Some of them could be strong to severe if present trends hold up, perhaps starting off 2019 with a bang here in Alabama.
