Alabama Weather Network is Alabama’s 24/7 source for smart, serious, and locally focused weather.
Founded by legendary meteorologist James Spann and a team of veteran broadcasters, technologists, and communicators, the Alabama Weather Network (AWN) was built to do one thing: serve the people of Alabama with accurate, life-saving weather information—every day, every hour, on every screen.
With deep roots in this state and a profound respect for the power of weather, we’ve created a new kind of weather channel—one that never signs off, never misses a moment, and never forgets who it’s for. From sunshine to storm season, we’re always on, always local, and always looking out for Alabama.
We are meteorologists, producers, field reporters, educators, and communicators united by a shared mission: to inform, protect, and connect Alabama’s communities through high-quality weather content. Our founder, James Spann, is a trusted voice with decades of experience, known nationwide for his tireless severe weather coverage and his passion for public safety.
Our leadership team includes award-winning meteorologists like John Oldshue, a pioneer in storm video and drone coverage, Drew McCombs, an Masters level meteorologist with two decades of experience with our graphics systems, and familiar faces like Ashley Brand, Charles Daniel, Bill Murray, and Brett Adair. Each bring unique expertise to ensure AWN blends credibility, creativity, and cutting-edge delivery.

Alabama knows weather. We’ve seen it at its worst, and we’ve seen how good information can save lives. But the modern media landscape wasn’t meeting the needs of our state. Weather updates were outsourced, automated, and often out of touch.
So we built something better. Something local. Something ours.
The Alabama Weather Network is here to restore trust, raise the bar, and create a new standard for how weather is delivered in this state.
We’re not driven by clicks. We’re driven by impact. We’ll never sensationalize, speculate, or disappear when the skies go blue. We’re here when the sirens sound and when the skies are calm—because every day is a weather day in Alabama.
We work with schools, tourism organizations, broadcasters, and sponsors who believe in the value of credible, Alabama-based weather information. And we’re just getting started.
Join us as we build the weather channel Alabama has always deserved.
