* 20.12 inches is the rain deficiency for Tuscaloosa Airport for 2007.
* 19.32 inches is the deficiency for Anniston.
* 16.18 inches is the Birmingham deficiency.
* 18.65 inches is the Huntsville deficiency.
* 9.47 inches is all the rain that Tuscaloosa has received this year.
* 50.80 inches is how much rain Huntsville has missed out on since January 1, 2005. That is an amazing stat. That means they had to miss out on a full year’s supply of rainfall in less than 30 months. I don’t ever remember a deficit that great, but it could have happened before, because Alabama has experienced some crippling droughts in years past.
* 11.25 inches is how much rain Huntsville has received this year. That makes it the driest of all time for year-to-date at this point.
* 0.01 is how much rain fell on Birmingham between September 29 and December 4 in 1924. It is considered one of the most severe droughts on record.
* 13 months in a row had below normal rain in Birmingham starting in January 1954.
* 34.36 inches was the average rainfall for the entire year across Alabama in 1954. That was the lowest in 71 years of record up until that time.
* 123 days in a row is how long parts of Central Alabama went without rain in the drought of 1954. There wasn’t even a trace in some of those areas from July 18 through November 16.
* 32.67 inches was the rain deficit for Bridgeport, in NE Alabama, for the calendar year 1954.
* 1840 was another year of severe drought in Alabama. Famine seemed imminent. The Warrior River at Tuscaloosa almost dried up resulting in the death of a great many fish. At Montgomery, there was a light shower in early August and no more rain until late October. The Alabama River was too low for navigation.
* 29.08 inches was the total rain in Huntsville for the entire year in 1840. Alabama has had a significant number of major droughts. We may write a more complete blog story about those at a later date.
* 3 to 4 inches of rain is the estimated amount in part of Western Oklahoma this morning. A big chunck of the USA, from South Texas northward into the Upper Midwest, have overdosed on rain this year. Too bad it cannot be smoothed out.
* 10 inches is how much Oklahoma has built a surplus this year.
* 26.86 inches is how much rain the Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport has received this year. That is nearly three times as much rain as Tuscaloosa has received.
* 11% was the relative humidity at nightfall today in Baghdad. They are expecting a high temperature of 111 Monday.
* 88 was the high temperature yesterday at Cooper Landing, Alaska. Good indication that summer has come to our biggest state.
* 116 was the hottest in the USA yesterday in Death Valley.
