Some great guests are coming up in the next few weeks on WeatherBrains, the weekly netcast that’s all about weather. Here is your chance to participate. Put your thinking cap on and help us make the show even better.
This week’s guest is Abby Sallenger, author of Island in a Storm, about the Last Island Hurricane. The hurricane, likely a category four storm, submerged Last Island, off the Louisiana coast when it struck on August 10, 1856. It is a famous storm that has always captured the fancy of Louisianans. Win a copy of Dr. Sallenger’s book by following the show on Twitter @WeatherBrains.
August 17th is the 40th anniversary of the landfall of Hurricane Camille. We will have a special show that night with lots of information about one of only three category five hurricanes to ever hit the United States. If you have a story or account from Camille, send it to [email protected] and you could win a copy of Philip Heard’s book about the hurricane.
Episode 187 will record on August 24th and it will feature a look back at Hurricane Katrina. Send your question for us to ask Ivor van Heerden , the former Director of the Louisiana Hurricane Center. Dr. van Heerden recently lost his job in what some say was a response by the Louisiana State University to his outspokenness. If we choose your particular question, you could win a copy of Dr. van Heerden’s book The Storm.
On September 1st, our special guest will be iconic television weatherman Tom Skilling, from WGN Channel 9 in Chicago. One of the most recognized faces in weather, Tom will keep us entertained with stories from his career and his opinions on the future of television weather.
On Labor Day night, John Gordon, Meteorologist in Charge of the Louisville National Weather Service Office will talk about Dixie Alley and the new slogan about protecting kids from hot cars.
