The Birmingham airport reported 16 hundredths of an inch of rain yesterday which brings the October rainfall total to 6.72 inches. That rain moves October, 2009, into the top ten wettest Octobers in Birmingham – actually into the eighth spot! Interesting to see two months back-to-back so wet.

Additional rain is in the forecast before October closes out, so it is highly likely that we will see this October move up. Based on the five day QPF of between one half and one inch, a half inch would move us into the sixth wettest October on record while an inch would move us into the fourth wettest spot. It’s not likely that we would get to third place since that would require over 4 inches of rain before October ends.

And our annual rainfall now shows a surplus of over 14 inches. Now we ARE beginning to put a dent in the 25-inch deficit from 2007!
