Each Monday afternoon, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Alabama Field Office releases their Weekly Crop and Weather Report including data from 34 weather stations around the state. Here is a selection of brief notes from the report. The information is still valid even though it is one day old.

* 27% of Alabama has very short top soil moisture,

* 48% was very short a week ago, so that is quite an improvement.

* 33% has adequate top soil moisture.

* It was 13% a week ago.

* 36.2% of the state’s pasture and range land is in very poor condition.

* 24.6% of Alabama is stull under the Exceptional Drought designation, which is 17.3% less than last week.

* 55% of the cotton crop was rated very poor or poor as compared to 68% a week ago.

* 4.05 inches is the 2007 rain deficiency for Geneva. Of the 34 reporting stations in the report, that means that Geneva has the least shortfall.

* 20.27 inches is the deficiency at the Cullman Ag Station

* 20.55 inches is the shortage at Thorsby. Those two stations were the only two of the 34 with a deficiency more than 20 inches.

* 30.93 inches is how much rain Brewton has received this year, the wettest of the 34 stations.
