The Storm Prediction Center along with both NWS Birmingham and NWS Huntsville have issued a new Severe Thunderstorm Watch effective until 3 am for the following counties: Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, and Morgan in North Alabama; and for Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Blount, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Marengo, Marion, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Winston, Bullock, Chambers, Chilton, Coosa, Elmore, Lee, Macon, Montgomery, Russell, Shelby, and Tallapoosa in Central Alabama.
The environment is favorable for strong, damaging winds. It’s possible that straight-line wind magnitudes could rival low-end tornado wind speeds.
