The Saturday edition of the Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes:

Wow, we’ve been talking about Storm Alert Xtreme and now it’s here. I hope to see you today at the BJCC for a big day of weather talk and spotter training. Going to be a great day for weather geeks in Central Alabama. Remember, you also get free admission to the 2007 International Auto Show.

A thin line of showers extended from just west of Anniston to near Prattville just before 6 am. Not much rain out of this with only 3 hundredths of an inch in my gauge. The cold front at the same time stretched from just west of Crossville, TN, to just west of Meridian, MS. The front will be sweeping through the state today, so it would appear that the best risk for showers will come in the eastern portion of Alabama. The front should be through most of the state by noon.

With the front comes a nice cool down after the warm weather we had yesterday. Pinson hit a high of 80 along with Evergreen and Mobile. But those warm temperatures will be gone for the next several days as we drop back to more typical lows and highs – lows in the 30s and highs mainly in the 60s.

The next big weather system comes in the Tuesday/Wednesday time frame. Still looking fairly potent on the latest GFS model run with a slightly negatively tilted trough. The forecast jet positions also appear favorable for at least strong storms. Of course, we are into the secondary severe weather season that we experience here in Alabama, so it is good to be vigilant. We’ll keep an eye on the model solutions since there has been little consistency over the last couple of weeks. That lack of consistency is one of the reasons SPC does not have anything in the 4 to 8 day extended outlook.

The next system whips through on Wednesday with a hugh upper level ridge forecast to our west into next weekend. This promises to bring Central Alabama another fabulously wonderful weekend with seasonal temperatures.

Not enough time this morning to troll because of Storm Alert Xtreme. I will be headed down to the BJCC as soon as all of the video is rendered and posted. I hope that you have a great day whatever your plans are. God bless.
