At 9 o’clock this morning, there was a 54-degree difference in temperature across the state of Oklahoma, from 19 in the west edge of the Oklahoma Panhandle to a balmy 73 in the SE.

The cold front is spending a lot of calories trying to move SE because winds aloft are still out of the SW in the general vicinity of the front.

Up in historic Dodge City, it was 20 degrees at 9 am with north winds 30 mph. That means that Matt Dillon, Chester and Doc are staying inside in Miss Kitty’s saloon drinking fresh coffee.

* Lowest temperature that I can find in the Lower 48 States was 26 below zero at the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. (West Yellowstone, Mont.) May be able to find something colder when all the late reports are in.

* Ground now frozen to a depth of 7 inches at Popular, Mont., and at a depth of 12 inches it was only 33 degrees. No time to put up a fence.
