Spanning Alabama is a signature feature of the Alabama Weather Network that follows James Spann as he travels the state he has spent a lifetime serving, studying, forecasting, and celebrating. For more than four decades, James has been one of Alabama’s most trusted and recognizable voices—guiding families through severe weather, visiting communities, speaking to schools, sharing stories, and building lasting relationships in every corner of the state. With Spanning Alabama, that connection extends beyond the weather map and onto the highways, backroads, and main streets of Alabama, uncovering the people, places, and stories that make our state unique.
Each episode is a short and engaging journey into the heart of Alabama. From small-town diners and family-owned restaurants to historic landmarks, local legends, hidden treasures, and everyday Alabamians doing extraordinary things, Spanning Alabama shines a spotlight on the communities that define our state. Some stories will feature places viewers know and love, while others will introduce destinations, traditions, and individuals that have quietly shaped Alabama’s character for generations. Through every stop, viewers discover a state rich in history, hospitality, resilience, faith, innovation, and community pride.
More than a travel series, Spanning Alabama is a celebration of home. Every town has a story worth telling, every community has a heartbeat, and every journey offers an opportunity to rediscover what makes Alabama special. Whether exploring a century-old courthouse, meeting a local business owner, sharing a meal at a beloved restaurant, or uncovering a fascinating piece of Alabama history, James brings viewers along for an authentic look at the people and places that make our state extraordinary.
