RADAR CHECK: While most of Alabama is dry, we have the classic case of widely scattered, random, scattered showers and thunderstorms across the state. A few spots are getting a good downpour, but for most communities the sky is partly to mostly sunny. Temperatures generally are in the 85-90 degree range. Scattered storms will end tonight after sunset.

The weather won’t change much tomorrow. Warm and humid with scattered showers and storms around, mostly after 2 p.m. The chance of any one spot seeing rain tomorrow is 30-40 percent; highest coverage will be over the northern half of the state.

Models suggest shower/storm coverage will be higher by Friday and the weekend, but the days still won’t be a wash-out, and the sun will be out at times. Most of the showers will come during the afternoon and evening hours, but some morning rain can’t be ruled out. In this pattern there is no skill in knowing the exact location of the showers/storms in advance… you just have to watch radar trends if you have an outdoor event planned.

Storms are not expected to be severe; lightning is the issue. Just remember, when thunder roars, get indoors! Expect highs mostly in the mid 80s through the holiday weekend.

NEXT WEEK: No real change. Warm, humid days with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms around each day, mostly during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will stay in the mid 80s. See the video briefing for maps, graphics, and more details.

SEC BASEBALL: The SEC baseball tournament continues in Hoover through Sunday. Highs will be in the 84-88 degree range, and in this pattern there is the daily risk of a passing shower or thunderstorm. Most of the showers will come from 2:00 until 10:00 p.m… and the coverage is expected to be a little higher by Friday and the weekend.

ON THIS DATE IN 1957: An F5 tornado touched down southwest of Kansas City, then traveled 71 miles through the suburbs. The tornado killed 45 people and left a path of near-total destruction in its wake.

ON THIS DATE IN 2025: Seventeen tornadoes touched down across Alabama, most of them across the Tennessee Valley. One was an EF-2 that moved from near Tanner to Madison in Limestone and Madison counties. The same supercell dropped another EF-2 in the Killingsworth Cove area east of Huntsville.

Look for the next video briefing here by 6:00 a.m. tomorrow…
