STILL DRY: Today will be the 15th consecutive day without measurable rain for most of Alabama, and dry weather should continue through the week. Expect mostly sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Highs generally between 75 and 80 degrees, lows in the 40s and 50s.

THE WEEKEND: Moisture levels will begin to rise Saturday, and we will introduce the chance of a few scattered showers. Nothing widespread or heavy. Showers will be more likely Sunday, but even then it doesn’t look like a wash-out or an especially heavy rain event. Highest coverage of showers should be over the northern half of the state. And highs will be in the mid to upper 70s over the weekend for most spots.

NEXT WEEK: Global models are showing some signals for a more meaningful rain event around the middle of next week… See the video briefing for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains quiet and tropical storm formation is not expected for at least the next 7-10 days.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Saturday Auburn will be in Oxford to take on Ole Miss (11:45a CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly cloudy with the risk of a few passing showers during the game. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70s.

South Alabama hosts Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon (2:00p CT kickoff)… expect a mix of sun and clouds with just a small risk of a shower. Temperatures will fall from around 80 degrees during the first half into the upper 70s by the fourth quarter.

ON THIS DATE IN 1952: There have been thousands of weather reconnaissance and research flights into hurricanes in the Atlantic and Pacific since the mid-1940s. There have been several close calls, but only four flights have been lost. A B-29 Super-fortress flight into Super Typhoon Wilma 350 miles east of Leyte in the Philippines disappeared on October 26, 1952. No trace was ever found of the plane or crew. In the last report, the flight was in the Super typhoon’s strongest winds, which were around 160 mph.

Look for the next video briefing here by 3:00 this afternoon… enjoy the day!
