**No Weather Xtreme video this morning due to ongoing severe weather issues… the next one will be produced by 3:30 this afternoon**

LONG NIGHT: Once again, despite a large number of tornado warnings, it looks like Alabama has come through the overnight severe weather event in pretty good shape with only spotty tree and power line damage. We sure have been very fortunate in recent severe weather threats; our neighbors over in Mississippi were hit much harder, with the most significant damage in Starkville, and Yazoo City.

The threat of severe weather will continue along the QLCS (squall line) for the rest of the morning, but behind the line cooler and more stable air has arrived, ending the severe weather threat for Northwest Alabama. The main threat will come from strong winds, possibly enough to knock down trees and powerlines, but an isolated spin-up tornado can’t be ruled out.

THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures will fall through the 50s with some risk of a little lingering light rain, but the sky will begin to clear by mid-afternoon as drier air takes over. The high for today will be reached this morning in most places.

TONIGHT/TOMORROW: The weather turns sharply colder with a clear sky. We will be in the upper 20s early tomorrow, and despite a sunny sky we won’t get out of the 40s tomorrow afternoon. Another freeze is likely late tomorrow night into Thursday morning.

THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY: The weather will be calm, with sunny cool days and clear cold nights. Highs mostly in the 50s and lows in the 30s. No rain for the high school championship games down at Auburn.

NEXT WEEK: The GFS continues to show a shot of very cold air, perhaps the coldest air so far this season, dropping into the Deep South by Tuesday of next week. The front marking the leading edge of the cold air comes through in generally dry fashion. The ECMWF continue to try and spin up a storm in the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday with some risk of a little wintry precipitation around here, but we are discounting that solution for now. We will take a much closer look at this later today after a power nap.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We did record a new show last night… it is available on iTunes and the web… hopefully we can get some show notes posted a little later this morning.
