From our associate John Oldshue:

“We took a short trip to Colorado this weekend with a few goals in mind..

1. catch the Aspens changing color
2. watch the Colorado Rockies win the National League Divisional Series
3. see some snow falling
4. watch the elk and hear them bugle

We got three of those taken care of….saw the Aspens Saturday and
then we headed for the Rockies game that night…it was 73 degrees
when we walked in the gate in shorts and T-shirts…they threw the
first pitch and then a gust of wind of at least 40 mph came through
the ball park indicating a cold front passed by…this had been
forecast but the exact timing had been in question…the temp dropped
to 55 with a wind chill of 32 within an hour…we lasted till the 5th
inning when we got worried that somebody might report us to the cops
for child cruelty as the kids were shivering a lot by then…went out
Sunday looking for more Aspen and found some good snow falling fast
enough to cover the ground…we are going for the elk buggling
tomorrow here in Estes Park…”
