Many parts of North and Central Alabama have experienced a traditional White Christmas for the first time in recorded history. The classic definition is an inch of snow on December 25th. Even if some spots didn’t meet the definition, it is still a beautiful scene across the state.

NO WHITE CHRISTMAS FOR BIRMINGHAM? The official snowboard at the Airport has not seen an inch of snow yet today, so the Magic City may still keep its dreadful record of having never officially seen a White Christmas intact. We will know at 6 p.m.

MORE CHANGES IN WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES: At of 5:37 p.m. The advisory for Calhoun, Cherokee, Etowah, St. Clair and Talladega Counties has been canceled. The Winter Weather Advisory for Clay, Cleburne and Randolph Counties has been extended until 9 p.m. The advisory has been expanded to include Chambers, Elmore, Lee, Macon and Tallapoosa Counties until 9 p.m.

Precipitation continues southeast of a line from Heflin to Ashland to Rockford to Camden. North of about Prattville it should be falling as snow. Late reports say it is snowing in Prattville and Selma now. The precipitation is moving east and will end over all the advisory counties by 6:30 or so.

A little light snow was developing over Walker and Cullman Counties. This will move southeastward over the next few hours, but accumulations will be light.

Be careful if you will be about tonight. As temperatures continue to drop, slush or snow covered roads will become hazardous, especially tonight, when readings are expected to drop into the upper 20s.
