Clearly this is the coldest morning so far this season, and just maybe the coldest morning of the winter. J.B. Elliott, the great American weather legend, will have a full list of lows across the frozen tundra later this morning.
WARMER DAYS AHEAD: We rise into the low 40s today with a sunny sky, and a good chance we hit the big 50 tomorrow as the start the weekend. However, let me caution you that it will be pretty cold tomorrow morning. The colder places will be in the upper teens, with lows 20s elsewhere at daybreak tomorrow. So, for that early Saturday morning run, bundle up. But, that 50 degree high will sure feel good. The high Sunday will also be close to 50. The weekend will stay dry with a partly sunny sky both days.
NEXT WEEK: We will bring in a chance of showers Monday and Monday night, possibly into Tuesday, as a short wave spins up a surface low just to the southwest. There will be stronger surface low to the north with a trailing front, and it remains to be see how the details of this will unfold. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 06Z operational GFS hints the most widespread rain will come Monday afternoon and Monday night, then ending Tuesday morning as the cold front sweeps through.
Colder air follows the rain on Wednesday and Thursday as the high drops back into the low 40s, but not as cold as the weather we have experienced this week.
VOODOO LAND: The North Atlantic Oscillation flips into positive range during the last week of January. Understand it can get cold with a positive NAO, it is just harder for that to happen. So, hopefully we will enjoy some relatively mild winter weather for the end of January and early February. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
