THIS MORNING: Temperatures are generally in the 30-35 degree range over the western half of the state… clouds were slower to leave over East Alabama, where some spots didn’t drop below the upper 30s. Our Skywatchers at Bessemer and Coker are reporting 31 degrees; my trusty thermometer in North Shelby County shows 33 at 5:00 a.m.

WARMER DAYS AHEAD: With sunshine back in full supply today, we warm into the upper 50s. Then, get set for a very nice weekend as temperatures rise to around 70 degrees both tomorrow and Sunday. The sky will sunny tomorrow, followed by a mix of sun and clouds on Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: Spring break week for many, and the weather looks pretty benign across the Deep South. A disturbance will bring the chance of a few showers late Monday and Monday night, but rain amounts should be light. Mid-week looks dry and mild with highs in the low to mid 70s Tuesday through Thursday. Then, another weak impulse could kick off a shower Friday, but for now it doesn’t look like anything really widespread or heavy. And, the good news, no shots of cold air next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for a day by day breakdown.

AT THE BEACH: Next week is spring break week for many Alabama students, and many are headed south this weekend. Expect lots of sunshine this weekend on the Gulf Coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores with highs on the immediate coast in the mid 60s. Remember, the ocean is still cool and that limits ability of the air to really get warm. The sea water temperature at Dauphin Island this afternoon is only 61 degrees. Once you get a few miles inland, low to mid 70s are likely. The weather looks generally dry Monday through Thursday with highs in the 60s on the coast, with 70s inland. The chance of a shower on these four days for now looks very small. A few showers could show up Friday, but they will be isolated and nothing to really worry about at this point. Pretty amazing that we are not expecting at least one really cold day next week… that is usually part of the spring break mix.

LONG RANGE: No sign of any serious severe weather threat for the next 15 days, or invasions of extremely cold air for the Deep South… again see the Weather Xtreme video for details.
