THIS AFTERNOON: What a nice warm-up after the cold start this morning; scroll down for a look at morning lows as compiled by the great American weather legend, J.B. Elliott. Most communities are in the low 70s this afternoon, with lots of sunshine through high cirrus clouds.
REST OF THE WEEK: Tonight won’t be as cold as last night. Most places will have a low in the 40s, although some of the colder valleys across Northeast Alabama could reach the upper 30s. Tomorrow will be another mostly sunny day with a high in the upper 70s.
Friday will feel more like June instead of April, with warm and very humid air moving in here. The high will be in the low 80s, and we might see a few scattered afternoon showers during the peak of the daytime heating process. The chance of any one spot getting wet is only about one in four.
SUMMER-LIKE WEEKEND: Looks like the warmest weekend so far this year, with highs in the 84-87 degree range Saturday and Monday. Saturday will be dry with a partly sunny sky, and most of Sunday will be rain-free as well thanks to the warm air aloft associated with an upper air ridge nosing in here from the Gulf of Mexico. Dewpoints will be very high, making it feel like summer.
NEXT ROUND OF STORMS: The 12Z GFS is a little slower with the next thunderstorm event, suggesting we see a band of rain and storms from about 2:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Monday. The ECMWF is the slowest model, with most of the showers and storms in here during the daytime hours Monday. The primary surface low is far to the north, so a tornado threat is not looking likely, although we could see strong winds along the squall line thanks to forcing from the upper trough that is lifting out of the Southwest U.S. Way too early to be really specific. Dry air returns Monday night, with sunny and pleasant weather likely for Tuesday and Wednesday.
For voodoo land ideas, see the Weather Xtreme video; showers should return toward the end of next week.
