WARM-UP ROLLING ALONG: Temperatures have reached the low 80s over the western half of Alabama this afternoon, with upper 70s to the east. The sky is mostly sunny, and humidity levels are fairly low (mostly in the 30 and 40 percent range).

TO THE WEST: Severe thunderstorms are possible for the next few days over the Southern Plains; tornado watches are up this afternoon from North Texas to Kansas. We do not expect any severe weather issues in Alabama through the weekend.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Looks like we can expect afternoon highs in the 87-90 degree range tomorrow through Sunday as summer-like warmth returns. While humidity levels will be on the rise, the weather should stay dry, with perhaps the exception of a few showers near the Tennessee border Sunday afternoon. A far cry from last weekend when we were dealing with record low maximum temperatures across our state.

NEXT WEEK: Any showers on Monday and Tuesday should be very isolated, and mainly north of I-20. We stay warm with upper 80s likely thanks to the upper ridge. The 12Z GFS brings in the next round of organized rain and storms Wednesday night into Thursday morning, and there still seems to be some risk of strong to severe storms. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details on weather next week and beyond.

HANGING OUT AT THE HANGOUT: Great weather down at Gulf Shores this weekend for the Hangout Music Festival… sunny days and fair nights through Sunday; daytime highs will be in the low 80s along the immediate coast, with lows in 60s. The sea surface temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this afternoon is 74.5 degrees (F).

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
