We continue to watch the radar and monitor severe weather reports coming out of Mississippi tonight and storms approach western Alabama.
The good news is that the reports are fewer and further between. This report from Oxford…Daily Journal newspaper (Tupelo) just reported this damage: … According to Oxford Police Chief Mike Martin, a heavy wind gust came through and caused damage (about 9 p.m.). He said the canopy of the Chevron station was blown off at the intersection of Highway 278 and Thacker Road. Also, widespread power outages were reported throughout Lafayette County and in portions of Oxford. Trees down, too.
Storms extend from Corinth to New Albany to Pittsboro to Grenada to Greenwood to east of Indianola. They are pushing east at about 25 mph. The southern end is slowing even more.
This puts them into Marion County around 12:30 a.m.
The number of tornado warnings has decreased dramatically. The tornado threat is lessening, but still not completely gone.
Tim will have an analysis any minute now…
