It has been a long night watching showers and thunderstorms march across Alabama. Around midnight a line of thunderstorms moved into the NW corner of the state and marched rapidly eastward. There was widespread damage across parts of the Tennessee Valley.

Since that time, the thunderstorms worked their way toward the east and southeast and gradually weakened.

Just before 4 am, the main storms (and the most lightning) were clustered over North Central Alabama especially across Walker, Cullman, Jefferson and Bibb County. That is also where most of the lightning was occurring.

No formal warnings at this hour but don’t take them for granted. There may be some localized flooding as well as some high winds and hail.

Those storms will still be around through Morning Drive, sometimes known as “rush hour” Other storms will be forming during the day and some of those could become locally strong to severe.

We will be on watch.
