Late on this Friday afternoon, we take a quick look at Alabama. As you guessed, heat is the most talked about but a few thunderstorms were also forming.
At 4:45, based on lightning, the thunderstorms were ESE of Montgomery and also a few miles SW of Montgomery. Over the north half of the state, a small, but growing thunderstorm was moving out of the SE corner of Colbert County into the NE corner of Franklin County.
Everything is moving toward the southwest.
Remember in a big mass of very hot air, these small thunderstorms can throw their weight around. They can quickly become angry and start throwing big hailstones, not to mention sudden downbursts of very high winds.
