At mid afternoon, virtually no showers or thunderstorms around the Alabama countryside. The main ones were centered near Albany, Ga., southward to Tallahassee and westward to Panama City. Lots of lightning.
Just like yesterday, all of them moving toward the southwest. Have not seen any formal warning with these storms. Yesterday, the SPC had a good part of Central and East Alabama under a “slight risk” No such designation today.
Way too hot across the state this afternoon. I took a half-mile walk with my small puppy at no slow pace. 96 degrees and gusts to 26 and heat index at an illegal 98 made it feel like standing in the door of a blast furnace!
Speaking of out-of-control temperatures, here is a 3 o’clock sampling across Alabama:
97 Muscle Shoals, heat index 104
98 Tuscaloosa, heat index 102
96 Birmingham, heat index 98, north wind gusts to 26 mph
98 Montgomery, heat index 100
102 Mobile, heat index 104, gusts 21 mph.
