Storms are intensifying now in two bands across the northern half of Alabama at this hour.
One extends from Walker through western Jefferson into Bibb, Shelby and Chilton Counties. This activity will lift up across much of the Birmingham Metro area over the next hour.
Just northeast of that, more storms are over St. Clair County, extending northwestward into Blount, Cullman, Morgan and Lawrence Counties. These will lift into the Gadsden area.
The storms have plenty of instability to work with, so they will be strong with intense lightning and gusty winds. There is also a good chance of hail with the stronger cells. A few of the storms may produce damaging winds and larger hail.
Outside of these adverse affects, the main effect will be beneficial rains, but be careful as they approach. This is lightning safety week and we don’t want any examples today.
