Early on this Friday afternoon, thunderstorms seem timid about developing in Alabama.

However!!!

Too early to give up. Some scattered ones will devlope later this afternoon because a blanket of hot/humid air covers the state. Best chance for early development may be over the North.

The Storm Prediction Center has outlined Extreme North Alabama for a slight risk this afternoon and evening. It extends as far south as Cullman.. However, when big thunderstorms develop, they go on a prowl and often pay no attention to borders.

Here is a sample of noon temperatures across the state:
80 Huntsville
81 Gadsden
92 Tuscaloosa with a heat index of 99
90 Birmingham
94 Montgomery with a heat index of 101

ONE COOL NOTE: Lowest temperature in the lowest four dozen states this morning was 34 at Meacham, Oregon.
