Folks in southern Lamar and Pickens Counties should be alert for the big storm coming out of Columbus MS.
The NWS Birmingham opting to go with a significant weather alert instead of a severe thunderstorm warning for Lamar/Pickens Counties, but this is a healthy storm. It has tops to nearly 60 thousand feet. (That’s 12 miles up in the atmosphere!) It has lots of lightning and heavy rain, and could produce damaging winds. It also is likely producing small hail, with some stones to quarter size possible.
Be inside, preferably in a part of the house that won’t be impacted by falling trees, away from windows. Don’t be in a mobile home if you have somewhere else to go. Remember, a lady was killed in North Alabama just last week when a strong storm felled a tree onto her mobile home.
