The lack of beneficial rain from this system is the bad news. Recent rainfalls have been successful in eradicating the drought conditions north of a line from Millport to Berry to Oakman to Birmingham, Talladega and Anniston. South of there, you pretty quickly get into moderate to severe drought conditions across South Central Alabama. There is even an area of extreme drought conditions over Southeast Alabama.
Northwest Alabama has fared well lately, with good short term moisture, but the Birmingham Metro area eastward didn’t do as well in the past week and still needs rainfall just to meet short term needs.
MORE BAD NEWS: Continuing in the glass half empty theme, don’t expect anything in rainfall across Central Alabama after today until at least Friday. And the long term outlook is not good either, with less than an inch forecast by the GFS over the next fourteen days across the entire state.
