COOLEST SO FAR THIS FALL: Get ready for a picture perfect fall weekend. Highs will be in the 67-70 degree range tomorrow and Sunday, with lows in the 40s. The coldest morning will come at daybreak Sunday; both the NAM and the GFS are printing 43 for Birmingham, and pretty much no doubt the colder valleys will reach the 30s. It will be hard to find a single cloud in the Alabama sky all weekend long.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: What a great night tonight for high school football. Temperatures start out in the 60s with a clear sky and fall into the 50s in the fourth quarter. To the north of Birmingham, it will likely be in the 50s during the entire game with a light north breeze and a clear sky.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Tomorrow Auburn travels to Columbia to take on South Carolina (kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. CDT). The sky will be sunny with a kickoff temperature near 70 degrees, falling into the low 60s by the second half. Alabama will be playing Florida Saturday night in Gainesville. The weather will be perfect with temperatures in the upper 70s at kickoff and into the 60s in the fourth quarter. UAB will play at Troy Saturday night (6:00 kickoff); again the sky will be clear with about 70 at kickoff, followed by upper 50s by the end of the game.

NEXT WEEK: We stay dry through Friday with a slow warming trend; we should reach the low 80s by Wednesday. The 12Z GFS suggests our next chance of rain comes around Sunday October 9; see the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.

TROPICS: Ophelia is now a category three hurricane with sustained winds to 115 mph; it is moving north over the open Atlantic and will pass east of Bermuda tomorrow. To the east, Tropical Storm Philippe is struggling with wind shear, but it is hanging in there as it moves to the west. More than likely, this one won’t be a problem for the U.S. either.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I really enjoyed speaking at the UAB Trauma Forum today at the Sheraton in downtown Birmingham… many of those people were heroes on April 27. I mean real heroes.

My next Weather Xtreme weather video will be posted bright and early Monday by 7:00 a.m… Brian Peters will have the video updates tomorrow and Sunday. Enjoy the weekend!
