THIS AFTERNOON: Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms continue across Alabama this afternoon as a strong upper trough sweeps through the state. Most of the showers are from near Jasper to Weiss Lake as I write this around 3:30… and all of the showers should be out of the state by 8:00 p.m.

TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: Fine fall weather is the story, with sunny days and clear nights. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s tomorrow and Saturday, followed by low to mid 80s Sunday. Morning lows will be in the 47 to 53 degree range.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Some teams play tonight; stadiums over most of the state will be dry. We believe the showers will exit East Alabama before kick-off time. Temperatures tonight will fall through the 60s. Then, tomorrow night, dry air takes over and the sky will be clear with temperatures in the 60s at kickoff, with 50s likely by the fourth quarter.

Saturday, Alabama travels to Oxford to take on the Ole Miss Rebels (5:00 p.m. CDT kickoff). It will be a great evening for football, with a clear sky and a kickoff temperature near 73 degrees, falling into the 60s during the second half. Auburn will host the Florida Gators at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 6:00 p.m. CDT… clear weather is the story with temperatures falling from near 70 at kickoff into the upper 50s by the final whistle. UAB is on the road at Tulsa for a 7:00 p.m. CDT kickoff. The sky will be clear with upper 70s at kickoff, and mid 60s by the fourth quarter.

NEXT WEEK: We stay dry Monday, but a strong cold front is due in here Tuesday. See the Weather Xtreme video and note the 12Z GFS is wetter with the front Tuesday, suggesting a pretty decent round of showers and storms along the front. Then, very cool air dips into the state Wednesday and Thursday. As Dr. Tim notes below, the 12Z GFS is colder and is back on the idea of widespread frost around here by early Thursday morning.

TROPICS: All remains quiet across the vast Atlantic basin this afternoon.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
