We are going to a holiday production schedule through Sunday, so we will produce one Weather Xtreme video daily… we get back to the “two a days” Monday.
IMPROVING WEATHER: The sky becomes sunny across Alabama today as cooler and drier air takes over. The high should be in the low to mid 60s with a fresh north breeze. And, sunshine will be out in full supply for Thanksgiving Day tomorrow with a high somewhere between 65 and 69 degrees. Doesn’t get much better. And, we stay dry for the big shopping day on Friday with a high holding in the upper 60s.
WEEKEND OUTLOOK: Saturday will be another dry day, with a partly sunny sky and a high around 70. But, to the west, a full latitude, deep upper trough will produce a band of showers and storms, and those will move into Alabama after midnight Saturday night and on Sunday. The good news is that there is no surface based instability on Sunday as temperatures fall to near 50 degrees, and with that being the case we see no significant risk of severe weather.
It should be a good rain producer, however, with one to two inches of rain likely statewide.
IRON BOWL FORECAST: Looking good for now. Partly sunny in Auburn Saturday afternoon for the big game that kicks off at 2:30; the temperature will fall from near 65 at kickoff into the upper 50s by the final whistle. A gusty south wind of 10-20 mph could be a factor, but the good news is that it looks like the storms will roll into Auburn well after the completion of the game.
SNOW FLAKES? A deep, cold core upper low forms near Alabama Sunday night and Monday, with the 1000-500 mb thickness values dropping to 5340 meters around here, meaning we will have to mention the chance of snow flurries or snow showers as we all go back to work after the long Thanksgiving weekend. The high Monday based on those thickness values will be only in the mid 40s, and we go below freezing by early Tuesday in many areas. Looks like only a slow warm-up Tuesday and Wednesday as the cold air stays in place. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details.
