Boy, was that some perfect weather for the Iron Bowl this afternoon, wasn’t it? May have been some of the best weather ever for the big game. Looked like the weather for some of those classic 70s games.
Rain is pushing eastward slowly across Mississippi tonight. It will move into Northwest Alabama later this evening. Heavier rain is moving northeastward out of southwestern Mississippi and you will see the overall coverage and intensity of the rain pick up overnight.
The storms that are entering southwestern Mississippi from Louisiana are strong. Some of them could become severe as they push into Mississippi, but significant severe weather is not expected. The SPC did put some severe probabilities in a recent mesoscale discussion. They commented that the chance of a watch is just 25% though.
The cold front is now pushing out of eastern Texas. The surface low is near Texarkana. The rain and storms will continue pushing eastward overnight, spreading across the state during the morning. With slow movement, the precipitation may take the better part of the day to get all the way into Georgia. In fact, the rain may last into the evening over eastern sections.
It is becoming breezy, as expected. Winds will average 7-15 mph over the night out of the southeast.
Temperatures range from the middle 60s in the east to middle 70s in the west. Dewpoints will continue to come up overnight. Most places will see low temperatures in the upper 50s to near 60F by morning.
Beneficial rains will accompany the system. We have been expecting over two inches of rain. That might be a little optimistic, but all areas should get at least an inch in a good soaking rain tomorrow.
