THIS MORNING: The upper low that produced strong storms earlier this morning will move over the state today. We will maintain the risk of lingering showers, and due to the very cold air aloft associated with the upper low, some of the showers might even produce some small hail. Temperatures will generally hold in the 50s.

COLDER AIR BLOWS IN: Much colder air moves into the state tomorrow, and we will need to mention a little light rain or a few sprinkles tomorrow as the chilly air arrives. In fact, the RPM continues to show a chance of snow flurries tomorrow evening from I-20 north, and we will need to go ahead and mention that in our forecast. If by chance we do see a few snow flakes, there won’t be any accumulation or travel problems. We stay in the 40s all day tomorrow with a chilly northwest wind.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The weather will be very cold early Friday and Saturday morning with temperatures well below freezing. The coldest morning should be early Saturday with lows in the 18 to 25 degree range with a clear sky and light wind. The high Friday will be somewhere from 40 to 45, but we warm to near 50 Saturday, followed by mid 50s Sunday with a good supply of sunshine both days.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The next chance of rain will come around Tuesday of next week, and the 00Z GFS hints the rain could linger into Wednesday as a surface front stalls out over South Alabama. And, out in the longer range, still no sign of any winter weather issues here with snow or ice as any cold snaps look to be short lived. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on the new episode we recorded last night.
