It has finally gone above freezing at the BHM Airport with a temperature of 33 degrees as of 11:00 AM, and with sunshine it should stay there until after sunset.  We stayed below freezing 14 hours last night and this morning, from 9 pm until 11 am.  It’s still breezy, so wind chills are in the 20s.

Just how cold it will get tonight will depend on whether the wind can calm down.  The center of the high pressure area never quite gets over us, and the wind could stay up just enough tonight to keep it from getting super cold.  But, I wouldn’t count on it.  Most likely, radiational cooling will drop us back to near 30 this evening, and with stable air near the ground then the wind will calm down, allowing temperatures to reach 20-25 by tomorrow morning, with colder valleys in the teens.   It won’t stay below freezing as long tonight, since mid-level temperatures are already warming, and we will reach 50 or so tomorrow.  Still, with such a cold day today and temperatures likely below freezing for another 10-12 hours tonight, you might want to think about protecting pipes, outdoor faucets, etc.
