Thunderstorm complex over West Alabama is pushing east southeast at 30 mph this morning.
It extends from near Gordo and Reform at 5:35, curving down to Union Boligee and Gainesville.
This part of the storm has good potential to produce a few damaging wind gusts. As you can see on the radar, it haa taken on the all too familiar comma shape of a mesoscale covective vortex, and as we have seen, those can be long lived wind producers.
Doppler radar shows strong winds of nearly 60 mph that could easily be reaching the ground.
Still no reports of any damage, but it is a sleepy West Alabama morning and not many people are up. They should be in the warning areas, inside a room away from windows and area trees that could fall or shed a limb on their homes.
It is crossing I-59 between Union and Epes, but south of Union, it isn’t severe, just heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning.
This storm will affect Bibb, Shelby and Chilton Counties next. It is a little weaker, but it should hold together long enough for warnings to be required for parts of those counties.
