The title is a quick description of the weather for Central Alabama for the next several days. We are into March and the severe weather season, so there is some good news – that we don’t see any significant threat for severe weather any time soon.

Clouds this morning will be breaking up as the upper trough axis finally clears Alabama. But even with the sun, do not expect to see warm temperatures. Look for the afternoon highs to remain in the 40s – but that does beat the highs in the 30s yesterday!!

The upper ridge moves in late today and Monday which should bring a nice warm up even though it will be brief. The upper ridge gets forced out by a strong upper low moving southeastward from the Dakotas on Monday to Southeast Iowa on Tuesday. The surface low associated with it will move across the Mid-South region and bring rain and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm to Central Alabama. Dynamics do not support any severe weather potential. In fact, limited moisture will mean that rainfall amounts are likely to remain around a half inch or less.

The upper low reaches the Outer Banks of North Carolina on Wednesday bringing another round of chilly weather to the Southeast US. This system will not be nearly as cold as the one we are experiencing right now, but do look for lows to dip down to around 30 on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

After that another upper ridge will build into the eastern half of the country ushering in a nice warming trend that should have us into the 60s Thursday and Friday and into the weekend. Another system promises a round of weather for us on Monday, March 11th.

The long range projections into week 2 suggest a moderation to the weather pattern with the establishment of an upper ridge, a pretty strong upper ridge, over the eastern half of the country. Besides the warm up, this pattern could spell a period of wet weather for us since the pattern taps into Pacific moisture.

I had a wonderful time as the master of ceremonies for the Helena Belles Masquerade Ball at the Helena Civic Center last night. The Pelham High School Jazz Ensemble played marvelously throughout the evening. And the Evangel Classical Dance Crew performed a number of dances for the crowd. Great evening of fun and entertainment while raising funds for the Helena Belles scholarship fund. I hope you have a great day. James Spann should be back with the next edition of the Weather Xtreme Video. Godspeed.
