Racing the Dark and the Rain

Eighteen laps to go at Talladega at 6:38 p.m. Sunset is about an hour away.

For now, the radar upstream of the track is clear, until you get to Leeds and Moody. There you run into a large mass of light to moderate rain that covers nearly all of Jefferson County.

This precipitation is rotating around the upper low and will move eastward over the Speedway. It is about 25 miles away, rotating eastward at 16 mph or so.

Laps under green flag take about 50 seconds, so they should make it.
