One year ago at this time, over 56% of our state was in drought conditions with nearly 90% at least abnormally dry.

2013 has been a decent year for rainfall in Alabama, with only small parts of Northwest, East Central and South Alabama getting less than average rainfall.

In the short term, North Central Alabama is looking really good, especially in the area centered around Cullman, Blount, St. Clair and northeastern Jefferson Counties. West Central Alabama, over Pickens, Greene. Sumter and parts of Hale Counties could use some short term rainfall however. Nationally, the drought has shifted westward and intensified from eastern New Mexico across much of the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, western Kansas and into Nebraska.
