WARM AFTERNOON: Temperatures again today are in the 88-92 degree range across North/Central Alabama with only one or two showers on radar at mid-afternoon over the northeast corner of the state. We do note a concentrated band of showers and storms approaching the I-40 corridor over Tennessee, ahead of a cold front that will bring a real breath of fresh air around here by Saturday morning.

A FEW LATE NIGHT SHOWERS: We will need to mention a chance of showers and storms along the front late tonight and early tomorrow. The high resolution NAM hints the best chance of a shower or storm will come from about 11:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. Some thunder is possible, but strong storms are not expected. In fact, rain amounts will be rather spotty because of the scattered nature of the showers, and some spots could miss the rain completely.

Showers will shift down into Deep South Alabama by tomorrow afternoon as drier and cooler air invades North Alabama.

COOL START TO THE WEEKEND: New computer model guidance still shows good potential for lows in the 40s across the cooler pockets of North Alabama at daybreak Saturday, with 50s elsewhere. It should be our coolest morning since the spring. Then, during the day Saturday, the weather will be glorious with sunshine in full supply and low humidity. Areas north of Birmingham probably won’t get out of the 70s; places like Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Anniston could reach the low 80s.

Sunday looks dry as well with ample sunshine and a high in the mid 80s.

NEXT WEEK: Moisture will slowly increase at mid-week, and we will mention the chance of a few showers by Wednesday and Thursday, but widespread rain isn’t expected, and no tropical connection with potential Tropical Storm Ingrid is expected for now.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Hurricane Humberto, in the East Atlantic, will weaken in coming days as it meanders over the open Atlantic. No threat to land as it will remain basically in the middle of nowhere. Gabrielle is a minimal tropical storm again; it is headed toward the Canadian maritimes, and will morph into a cold core North Atlantic type storm over the next few days. No threat to the U.S.

The disturbance in the Bay of Campeche should become Tropical Storm Ingrid during the next 36 hours; it will make landfall on the Mexican coast late this weekend, well south of Brownsville, Texas. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

AT THE BEACH: Lots of sunshine for the Gulf Coast through the weekend from Panama City over to Gulf Shores; the exception comes tomorrow evening when a band of storms should pass through along the cold front. Highs will be in the 80s; the sea water temperatures are mostly in the mid 80s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The weather should be generally dry for the high school games tonight and tomorrow night. Tonight will feature a kickoff temperature near 84 degrees, falling into the 70s by the final whistle. Tomorrow night will be cooler and less humid with upper 70s at kickoff, and good potential for 60s by the fourth quarter.

For fans traveling to College Station, Texas for Alabama’s game against Texas A&M Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff), you don’t need to bring jackets or sweaters. The sky will be partly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 94 degrees… falling back into the upper 80s by the final whistle. The last few model runs have shown a higher level of moisture, and I think we better mention some risk of an isolated shower or storm during the game.

For Auburn’s home game against Mississippi State (6:00p CT kickoff), the sky will be clear… the temperature close to 79 degrees at kickoff, then reaching the 60s by the fourth quarter. Much more comfortable than the past two weeks at Jordan Hare Stadium.
