FRIDAY FRONT: A cold front is working through North Alabama this morning without much fanfare. We note a few isolated showers west of Tuscaloosa at daybreak, but the rest of the state is dry. The front will keep moving south, and any showers ahead of the boundary this afternoon will be down over South Alabama as drier air pours into the northern half of the state. The sky around here this afternoon will be sunny with lowering humidity levels.
COOL CHANGE: We will begin the weekend will lows mostly in the 50s early tomorrow morning; colder pockets across North Alabama will have a chance of visiting the upper 40s for the first time since the spring. Our weekend weather will be delightful, with a sunny sky both days and low humidity. The high tomorrow will be in the low 80s, with mid 80s Sunday.
NEXT WEEK: Moisture levels slowly rise, and a few scattered showers could show up Wednesday through Friday, but for now it doesn’t look especially widespread. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps and details.
TROPICS: Humberto, in the East Atlantic, will be downgraded to a tropical storm later today as it moves over cooler water. It will meander around in the open Atlantic for days and is no threat to land. Gabrielle is a tropical depression off the East Coast of the U.S… it will head toward the Canadian maritimes and make the change to a cold core, North Atlantic type storm.
Tropical Depression 10 in the Bay of Campeche will become Tropical Storm Ingrid during the next 24 hours… it should make landfall on the Mexican coast late in the weekend, and will bring potential for life threatening flooding to Northeast Mexico. Heavy rain is possible for the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas early next week as well.
AT THE BEACH: A brief shower or storm is possible this evening along the cold front, otherwise fantastic weather from Panama City to Gulf Shores through early next week with mostly sunny days and fair nights. Highs in the 80s; the sea water temperature this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 85 degrees.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: What a great night for high school football; the sky will be clear tonight. Kickoff temperature near 75 degrees, then falling into the 60s by halftime. Some stadiums might even be in the upper 50s by the final whistle.
For fans traveling to College Station, Texas for Alabama’s game against Texas A&M tomorrow (2:30p CT kickoff), you don’t need to bring jackets or sweaters. The sky will be partly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 94 degrees… falling back into the upper 80s by the final whistle. A few isolated showers or storms are possible near the game site, but the rain won’t be widespread.
For Auburn’s home game against Mississippi State (6:00p CT kickoff), the sky will be clear… the temperature close to 79 degrees at kickoff, then reaching the 60s by the fourth quarter. Much more comfortable than the past two weeks at Jordan Hare Stadium.
