When you step outside this morning, you will get a hint of Fall as temperatures across much of Central Alabama have fallen into the 50s. Nice! That along with lower humidity will make today a nearly perfect Fall-ish day with highs climbing to around 81 degrees. For fans traveling to College Station, TX, for Alabama’s game against Texas A&M at 2:30 pm, you won’t need a jacket or sweater. The sky will be partly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 94 degrees, falling back into the upper 80s by the final whistle. An isolated shower is possible near the game site, but the rain won’t be widespread. And for Auburn’s home game against Mississippi State at 6:00 pm, the sky will be clear with the temperature close to 79 degrees at kickoff, then reaching the 60s by the fourth quarter.
Beach goers will find some nice weather along the coast. An isolated shower is possible today but it will be drier Sunday and Monday. Highs will be in the middle and upper 80s while lows will be in the lower 70s. Sunshine should be abundant.
The trough that has brought the cooler, drier air to the Southeast US will shift quickly eastward as the upper pattern gets replaced once again with an elongated ridge across the area. Another fast moving trough will traverse the Great Lakes and Northeast US Monday and Tuesday with a weak front coming into the Ohio River Valley. But with the upper ridge holding across the area, we will probably only see a few clouds. With a slight uptick in moisture, we could see isolated showers possible from Wednesday into Friday. Another trough coming into the picture on Thursday, promises to dig into the eastern US by Saturday. This could bring a front into the area by Saturday which could mean a pretty good chance of showers for us. But this is verging on voodoo country, and timing may well need to be adjusted by the time we get out to next Friday and Saturday.
Tropics have become more active with two areas of concern. Far out in the Atlantic, Humbert continues to churn along but is expected to become post-tropical later today. In the Southwest Gulf, Ingrid continued to drift slightly northward this morning and was strengthening. Ingrid is likely to become a hurricane later today or tonight before it begins a curve back toward the Mexican Coast.
