The day is shaping up to be a wonderful Fall type day with lots of sun as temperatures climb into the lower 80s. If you are headed out for a football game, the weather should be wonderful. Alabama hosts Ole Miss late this afternoon at 5:30 pm at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The sky will be clear with a few clouds. Temperatures will be about 80 degrees at kickoff, falling through the 70s during the game. UAB is in Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores this evening (6:30 pm CT kickoff); clear weather is the story there as well with temperatures falling from near 76 at kickoff, into the 60s by the fourth quarter. Samford and Jacksonville State both have afternoon home games today; the weather will be great with lots of sun and kickoff temperatures in the low 80s at Birmingham and Jacksonville.

Beach goers will enjoy some great weather, too, with highs around 84 along the Alabama beaches and into Northwest Florida.

An upper trough will bring a weak front into the northwest corner of Alabama on Sunday, so while we stay mainly dry, we will have to mention the possibility of an isolated shower or two. And the pattern remains somewhat weak for much of the upcoming week. The front will wash out as the upper flow goes nearly zonal and remains that way for much of the week. This means a daily chance for isolated showers, but not many of us will see rain. The next big action begins to take shape around Thursday. A strong upper trough coming into the western US on Thursday will push steadily across the US bringing a front into the Middle Mississippi River Valley on Saturday. That should bring us a good chance for rain Saturday, however, timing might need to be adjusted slightly since we are 7 days out – and that means that rain might hold off until Sunday.

The GFS also paints a little tropical mischief in the vicinity of Southwest Florida on Thursday. The current run does not make much of that, but we’ll need to watch future runs for indications on how much that might develop. NHC has briefly mentioned the potential for some development in the western Caribbean next week, but conditions do not appear too conducive for significant development.

Looking into week 2, voodoo country seems to be devoid of any big developments with a near zonal flow for the southern US as the upper ridge holds over Texas keeping travel systems well north.
