CRISP OCTOBER MORNING: Some temperatures just before sun-up across Alabama include…
Haleyville 44
Black Creek (just northeast of Gadsden) 44
Decatur 45
Fort Payne 46
Gadsden 47
Cullman 47
Bessemer 52
Pleasant Grove 53
We should note there is some very dense fog in scattered pockets over North Alabama, and a dense fog advisory has been issued. Once that fog burns off, the day should be partly to mostly sunny with a high around 70 degrees. Clouds will increase tonight ahead of the next impulse moving into the state from the west.
OUR WEEKEND: Still good model agreement showing dry weather for North Alabama tomorrow, while some light rain is possible over the southern counties of the state. Then, all 67 counties will enjoy a sun filled Sunday. Sunday morning will be the coldest one so far this season, with lows in the 41-46 degree range for most communities around here; the high Sunday afternoon will be near 70.
FROST THREAT: Even colder air invades Alabama by the middle of next week. There is some model difference on the depth and timing of the cold air, but it could begin arriving as early as Tuesday, with lows potentially in the mid to upper 30s by Wednesday, Thursday, and maybe even Friday morning in a number of towns. Still looks like the coldest morning will come on Thursday (October 24), and frost is a very real possibility for the northern half of Alabama. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Tonight looks great for high school football with clear and cool conditions. The kickoff temperature will be in the mid 60s, falling into the 50s during the second half. You will need a jacket.
Alabama will host the Arkansas Razorbacks tomorrow evening (6:00p CT kickoff) at Bryant-Denny Stadium; the sky will be mostly fair; about 73 degrees at kickoff, with temperatures falling into the 50s by the final whistle.
Auburn is on the road; they will take on the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station, TX tomorrow (2:30p CT kickoff). The sky will be partly sunny with only a slight risk of a shower during the game; about 74 degrees at kickoff, then falling into the 60s by the fourth quarter.
RACE WEEKEND AT TALLADEGA: We expect dry weather through Sunday with pleasant days, and fair chilly nights. Highs for the weekend will be in the low to mid 70s, and a chilly Sunday morning low in the mid 40s. The sky will become cloudy at times tonight and tomorrow as rain moves across South Alabama, but that wet weather should stay south of the Superspeedway; Sunday should be a sun filled day. A fine weekend for NASCAR fans.
AT THE BEACH: Today should be brighter from Panama City to Gulf Shores with intervals of sunshine, but light rain moves back into the region tonight and tomorrow. Then, Sunday looks much better with a good supply of sunshine. Highs will be generally in the 70s.
