Clouds persisted across much of the Southeast US overnight and in spite of a deep dry layer in the atmosphere, a few sprinkles managed to reach the ground. We’ll continue to see clouds for much of the day today mixed with some sunshine at times as another surface high slides into the area from the northwest. Monday should see a return to more sunshine than clouds. It will remain mild through Monday, too, with highs in the mid and upper 60s today and edging into the lower 70s on Monday. But enjoy those relatively warm temperatures because a major cold front with some very cold air is forecast to blast through the area on Tuesday. This will usher in the coldest air we’ve seen so far this season and put an end to the growing season with a significant freeze.

Tuesday is likely to be a somewhat raw day as the wind shifts to the northwest with the frontal passage and we see winds of 15 to 20 mph with higher gusts. Temperatures on Tuesday are not expected to climb out of the 50s and we could see the temperature dropping for much of the day. Moisture appears to be very limited, so while there is a small chance of seeing a narrow line of showers and light rain, I suspect that most of us stay dry with the cold frontal passage.

The surface high will settle into the area on Wednesday so Wednesday morning will be quite cold with lows dropping into the 20s. Good radiational cooling will help and should also keep temperatures in the 20s for Thursday morning.

A weak ridge develops ahead of the next system coming into the Rockies by Friday. As the surface high moves off to the east, the Gulf should open up ahead of this next system bringing rain chances for the weekend. Right now it looks like Sunday will be the wettest as the upper trough taps into a good southwesterly flow as it moves closer.

The tropics remain quiet at the 2013 hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin continues to wind down. And SPC has no severe weather areas outlooked; in fact, there are no thunderstorms forecast across the continental US at all.

The weather pattern remains active out into voodoo country with a shift to the overall weather pattern as the GFS suggests more of a trough over the western part of the US. This would mean we could see a wetter period for the latter part of November. As Ryan noted in his post yesterday morning, the drought conditions across much of Alabama have increased with the lack of rain during October and early November.

Nice to see Alabama, Auburn, and Florida State win their games yesterday. Still looking good for a potential National Championship game between Florida State and Alabama. James Spann will have the next Weather Xtreme Video bright and early on Monday morning. Godspeed.
