RADAR CHECK: We have areas of light rain across North/Central Alabama this afternoon…nothing too heavy, and no lightning. The rain is moving to the northwest, and we will forecast periods of rain tonight.

TOMORROW: Wet weather continues. An upper trough on the Texas coast will lift northeast, and the surface low in the northern Gulf moves inland (not becoming a tropical depression or storm). Rain will fall at times tomorrow with a cloudy sky, and temperatures holding in the 70s. Additional rain amounts of 1/2 to 1 inch are likely across North/Central Alabama.

WEDNESDAY: The weather trends drier as the upper support lifts away from the region. The sun breaks out at times, and any lingering showers will be scattered in nature. The high Wednesday afternoon will be close to 80 degrees.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: A nice, cool, continental airmass drops into the Deep South, setting up beautiful weather. Sunny days, fair nights… highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s. Doesn’t get much better. Great weather for high school football games this week.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The good news is that the dry fall weather will continue through Sunday. Lots of sunshine both days; highs hold in the 70s, with lows in the 50s. Some of the colder pockets across North/Central Alabama could visit the 40s early Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: We might consider the mention of scattered showers early in the week with an upper trough approaching from the west, but for now moisture looks very limited, and the chance of significant rain looks low. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: Tropical Depression 11 in the Atlantic is expected to become Tropical Storm Joaquin (pronounced wah-KEEN) tonight; it will move north in coming days, and could bring wind and rain to the upper half of the U.S. Atlantic coast late this week and over the weekend.

AT THE BEACH: Expect periods of rain through tomorrow from Gulf Shores east to Panama City Beach… a flash flood watch remains in effect. Then, just scattered showers Wednesday, and the weather looks mostly dry Thursday through the weekend. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here.
