It has turned out to be a beautiful afternoon for racing at Talladega and any other outdoor activity in which you find yourself involved. The sun has emerged and temperatures were soaring toward the 90 degree mark in places that have seen the most sunshine. Other places were back in the middle 80s. Where clouds have remained more prevalent, readings were in the 70s to near 80F.

REST OF THE AFTERNOON: The airmass over Central sections around Birmingham, Cullman and down highway 280 still had a bit of a lid on it. But everywhere, it is unstable and if storms get going, they will get strong again. That was happening over Northeast Alabama. One storm was south of Fort Payne, heading toward Centre. Others were bubbling up over northern Jackson County. Back in Tennessee, there was a severe thunderstorm warning for Marion County, which is west of Chattanooga. These storms will continue moving down into Alabama this afternoon.

OVERNIGHT: We will keep the chance of showers and storms in overnight. Look for lows in the middle 60s.
