Radar check at 12:05 AM shows the line of rain and thunderstorms continuing to push eastward across North/Central Alabama, as it currently stretches from Centre to Vincent, then curls back to Bessemer and stretches down to Sweetwater in Marengo County. The good news is that there is only one severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of Cherokee and Etowah Counties Until 12:45 AM.

None of the storms south of the I-20 corridor have shown and severe characteristics as the air down over that part of the state seems to be more stable at this point.

We have had a few reports of damage, with the worst so far occurring in Jasper where damage to sears building in the Parkland Shopping Center. Most of the other reports have been trees and power lines downed. No tornadoes reported at this point.

It looks like the likelihood for any severe weather is really starting to fade at the moment. We may have a few stronger storms out there that may warrant a Significant Weather Advisory or a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from now until 4:00 AM, but odds are continuing to drop as the stronger part of the line is about to start moving out of the state, and conditions on the southern end are not as favorable for severe weather.

We’ll continue to watch the southern end of the line as it moves through Central Alabama throughout the next few hours. We’ll have the latest on watches and warnings, so keep checking back with us on the blog.
