Early today, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) expanded the slight
risk for today and tonight to include all of Alabama except the SE corner of
the state around Dothan.
At 8:30 am, a few thunderstorms were entering Extreme NW Alabama in Colbert and Lauderdale County. Another strong storm over East Mississippi was moving NE toward West Alabama’s Lamar County. No warnings in Alabama so far. Strongest storms, with lots of
lightning were mainly over Extreme North and Northeast Mississippi and West
Tennessee. No reports of severe weather anywhere in all this area since
midnight. There are no watches in effect at this hour.
BIRMINGHAM METRO AREA
Don’t see much chance of any storms until late morning or mid-day and this afternoon and
tonight. This does not seem to be a major threat, in fact evidence for
possible tornadoes seems very low. But, as we always caution, we can never
say absolute NEVER.
In summary, the main chance for showers and thunderstorms for BHM will be
this afternoon and tonight.
They will decrease and thin out Saturday as it turns noticeably cooler. A nice cool spell ahead
with high Saturday about 72-75 and low Sunday morning a cool 52. We look for
lows of 48 Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
We will be on watch as the day goes on and also tonight.
