Strong/Severe Storms Push Into Alabama Tomorrow Morning
THIS AFTERNOON: A warm front continues to push across Alabama, and we have a big temperature spread at mid-afternoon. Tuscaloosa reports 75 degrees at 2pm with a dew point of 70, but cooler air is still across Northeast Alabama, where Gadsden reports 55 degrees. The sky is mostly cloudy over the northern half of the state, and a few spotty showers are moving northeast. The warm, unstable air will finally push into the northeast counties of the state tonight, and winds will increase as a cold front approaches. Continue reading
Highs In The 70s Today; Strong/Severe Storms Tomorrow
WARM DECEMBER DAY: A warm front continues to push northward across Alabama early this morning with a few scattered showers; the sky will be generally cloudy today with a very mild afternoon. We project a high in the mid 70s… the record high for December 10 is 79 set in 2007. We will be watching developments to the northwest late this afternoon and tonight; SPC has defined an “enhanced risk” (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms from the Mississippi Delta region northward into parts of Illinois and Indiana. Storms that form in that region will become severe, and a strong tornado or two can’t be ruled out. Continue reading

THIS AFTERNOON: We have more clouds than sun across much of Alabama, but showers are confined to Mobile and Baldwin counties at mid-afternoon, close to a front near the Gulf Coast. Temperatures over the northern half of the state are in the 58-64 degree range. Continue reading

BIG CHANGES AHAED: With a clear sky, temperatures are mostly in the 30s across the northern half of Alabama this morning, with 40s over the southern counties. Today will be partly sunny with a high in the 60s; clouds will increase late in the day as a surface front near the Gulf Coast begins to lift northward. RADAR CHECK: A band of rain is over parts of East and South Alabama early this morning, generally south of a line from Centre to Calera to Demopolis. This rain is in response to a wave moving along a stalled front over South Alabama… as the wave moves eastward the rain will end by mid-morning, and the sky becomes mostly sunny statewide this afternoon. Scattered Showers Through Tomorrow Morning; Some Sun Tomorrow Afternoon
RADAR CHECK: It is a cloudy and cold day for Alabama… temperatures are only in the 40s over the northern third of the state. Radar shows a few scattered showers over the central counties moving eastward, north of a stalled cold front not far from the Gulf Coast. Showers will increase statewide late tonight and tomorrow morning as a wave of low pressure rides along the front. Continue reading
Cool, Dry Day For North/Central Alabama
ON THE MAPS: A cold front is stalled out over Southeast Alabama early this morning; south of the front Dothan reports 60 degrees, but most communities over the northern half of the state are in the 30s, and a few spots are at freezing. Today will be mostly cloudy and cool with a high in the 48-52 degree range for North/Central Alabama… the average high for Birmingham on December 7 is 59. Colder Air Rolling In; Occasional Showers Stay In The Forecast
RADAR CHECK: Rain continues this afternoon generally south of a line from Wedowee to Marion to Butler; a few strong storms are in progress but there are no warnings in effect at mid-afternoon.
